Murphy makes his move on The Russets
At just 13 weeks old, Murphy the border terrier is a little dog heading for a big role at The Russets. He hope he’s going to be the first official P.A.T (Pets As Therapy) dog at this specialist dementia care facility when he grows up.
His first few visits to acclimatize have proved he’s a big hit with the residents. “Quite frankly he’s a small dog who enjoys being the centre of a big fuss,” admits Murphy’s owner Emma Hann, receptionist at The Russets. “He thinks he’s a celebrity.
“Murphy’s a bit mischievous, but already it’s easy to see he’s a real people dog,” adds Emma. “Quite a few of the residents have made a connection with him; one lovely lady in particular keeps asking me when he’s coming back.”
It’s still early days for Murphy who is keeping his visits to one or two afternoons a week not least because an hour playing with residents means he needs at least an hour for a little nap in the office.
He’s just a few weeks away from completing his puppy training and will then aim for his first of three Good Citizen Scheme Dog Awards, all good experience for helping him make new friends at The Russets.
